This training provides drill conductor certification to Captains and Mates who have attended our one-day basic safety training class. The law requires all documented commercial fishing vessels who fish beyond the U.S. Boundary line to conduct and log monthly emergency drills: Man Overboard, Fire, Damage Control and Abandon Ship. A certified drill conductor must conduct these drills. To become certified, you must attend a course given by a Coast Guard Certified Marine Safety Instructor. Our instructors are Coast Guard Certified Marine Safety instructors. So, upon satisfactory completion of this course, you will be issued a Drill Conductor Certification that meets the Coast Guard requirement. The curriculum includes classroom training as well as hands-on drills. After the classroom portion participants will re-convene at the docks in Shinnecock to run drills on the boats. For more information or to register call Tara Froehlich at (631) 727-7850 x317 or email at taf4@cornell.edu.
