Many of you probably saw the notice for the upcoming (0001 hours, August 11, 2014) squid closure: http://www.greateratlantic.fisheries.noaa.gov/nr/2014/August/14smblongfint2closurephl.pdf. Quota reports (current and archived) can be found here: http://www.greateratlantic.fisheries.noaa.gov/ro/fso/reports/reports_frame.htm. The Trimester 2 squid quota had been increased by 50% according to the rollover provisions in the plan, but landings are coming up on the increased quota.
NMFS’ river herring Technical Expert Working Group (TEWG) continues to be active and upcoming meetings and past meeting summaries can be found at: http://www.nero.noaa.gov/protected/riverherring/tewg/index.html.
Activity regarding the Industry-Funded Observer Omnibus Amendment (will include consideration of Atl. mackerel/herring observer coverage specifically) can be tracked here: http://www.mafmc.org/actions/observer-funding-omnibus.
All for now, thanks, Jason
